Clutter Control: Use “Catch-All” Baskets

With an active toddler running around the house most of the day, I found that toys and other items just magically appeared on the living room and kitchen floors. We spend the majority of our time in this area and the mess would often get out of control. I didn’t always have the chance to put every item back exactly where it needed to go at the time and it started to get frustrating for me.

This month I decided to keep a large basket in the living room area. I call it my “catch-all basket.” When I have a few minutes here and there, I quickly toss every stray item I possibly can that does not belong on the floor into this basket. Later when I have some free time, I go through the basket and put everything away where it belongs.

This method has worked very well for me and has tamed the clutter. Have company coming over soon? No problem! Just throw everything into the basket and place the basket out of sight!

What a great idea. I am a little old grandma with 2 very active granddaughters. This basket idea will work great and we will be able to make a game out of whom can pick up the most toys and stuff.

I have two very flat bins. I keep my bill paying stuff in one and couponing stuff in the other. Since I do both those activities from the couch, these bins easily slide under my couch when not in use. It’s almost like hideaway desk space. When I need one, I slide out and can literally work from my lap on the couch!

This is a very neat idea! We don’t have couches that have space underneath them, but this is a great idea for anyone that does! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Yes, I bought 2 of those fabric bins and keep them in our living room! Drives me crazy all the stuff that comes into our living room!

We do the same thing, except for now we use laundry baskets. I need to get some prettier baskets!
