Dish-washing soap
Cotton swabs

Directions for the Color Changing Milk Science Experiment:

Fill a dinner plate with whole or 2% milk and let it settle.

Pour one drop of each color of food coloring into the middle of the plate keeping the colors close together.

Place one end of a clean cotton swab into the center (do not stir). What happens?

Now, put a drop of dish soap on the other end of the cotton swab and place the cotton swab in the center of the plate for about 15 seconds. You should see the colors spread out towards the sides of the plate!

After your child sees the colors burst to the sides, you can allow them to stir it around if you wish.

Once the colors were mixed the milk turned a greenish color. We repeated the steps again. You can see why it’s important to place the cotton swab in the very middle of the colors, otherwise, only one color will burst to the sides!

I let my daughter stir the milk again after the second experiment.
