  • Smart Ways to Save Money on All Your Pet Needs

    Have a pet?

If you answered yes, we all know how expensive having a pet can be. I have a calico cat. You can see her photos here. I buy cat food, cat food, cat treats, and of course I had to buy cat food bowls/litter boxes and cat toys for her. This adds up. For those of you that have more than one pet, especially hungry dogs, I know you are having to spend a lot of money to take care of them. Then you have vet bills, medicine, collars, bones, chew toys, etc.

  • Why I Love Consigning Clutter

    Pay day!
Who says Stay at Home Moms can’t make a little extra income?
This is a check from my local consignment store. I receive one of these every few months, most of them over $100. Each month I go through each room of my house and box up things that I do not need or use, and things that are taking up valuable space in our house. I am not a fan of clutter so if it doesn’t serve a purpose, it goes. I have to live this way as a military wife–we pick up and move often.
How do I consign my items?
My consignment store accepts almost everything. I call them when I know I need to “lose a little weight” with the clutter and make an appointment. I box my items up into categories: seasonal clothes, shoes, accessories, and housewares. Then I take them on my appointment day and time and they take the boxes from me.
    They do the rest.
That’s right…no pricing, no garage/yard sales, no dealing with money and change…I just sit and wait for my check to arrive in the mail. The consignment store I go to prices items very fairly. Most of the time I earn more than I would if I were selling the item at a yard sale. They earn 60% of my sale, I earn 40%. They send me a nice little statement on which items I have sold and for how much. Then I get to deposit my check!
Do you have extra clutter around your house that you could do away with? Try consigning them by following these steps below.
    1. Look in the phonebook or search your city for consignment stores that will give you the most for your items.
    2. Call ahead and see which items they are currently accepting and ask if you need to schedule an appointment or if you can walk-in with items ready.
    3. Ask about their packing policy. How will they accept items? Do they need to be in boxes/on hangers/in bags? Do they need to be cleaned?
    4. Ask about their payment policy. How much you will earn on items? How often will you get paid? When can you expect to receive checks? Is there a consigning fee for each item that may be taken out of your check?
    5. Ask about their expiration policy. What happens to items that have been out for a while that are not selling? Do you pick these up, donate to charity, or do they belong then to the store?
    6. Try consigning at several different consignment stores. One store may take items that another store will not.
Consigning may or may not be for you. Some of you may prefer having garage/yard sales. You could try it out and see if you like it and get a little bit of extra cash in your pockets!
  • Why the Ladies Should Request Free Feminine Samples

*If you are a male stumbling across this post, you can either 1.) run away in embarrassment or 2.) pass this valuable information to the ladies of the house!

One of my favorite free samples to sign up for is for the feminine products that come a long my way. See the picture above. Quite a nice stash, huh? Feminine products are always “improving” and there are always free samples to be requested (Playtex, Tampax, Kotex, O.b., Poise, Always, Carefree, Stayfree, Tena) In fact, I find myself posting free feminine products quite often–and I sign up for all of them! The companies are generous in their samples as they usually send at least three tampons, at least three pads, or a little of both. There are high value coupons in just about every free sample I get. When you do this times four or five companies, you have created “a box” of tampons or a “bag” of pads in no time!

We all know how expensive feminine products are, and as frugal as I am, I see no point in spending hard earned dollars on products that are going to end up in the landfill. Sign up for your free samples that come your way and start creating your own stash of feminine products.

  • How to Contact Companies for Free Coupons

I received several free coupons in the mail today. Why am I receiving these coupons? I take the time (which takes less than 5 minutes for each company) to write my favorite companies online, requesting coupons. Read my post writing to companies for free coupons. At the end of this post, we will practice writing to a company. Are you excited yet??? You should be!

Skinny Cow sent me two coupons for $0.50 off any ice cream treats.

Georgia Pacifics Angel Soft sent me four $0.55 off any package of Angel Soft Bath Tissue.

Continental Mills sent me three $0.30 off coupons for any Krusteaz baking mixes.

I like their Wheat and Honey pancake mix.

I forgot that I had a $10.00 rebate check coming in the mail from Kraft Foods.

If you purchased a certain amount of food in a certain time period, you could get this rebate.

Wanna try writing a company? Let’s try writing Skinny Cow, since we know they are generous and send coupons.

    1. Head here to the Skinny Cow “Contact Us” form.
    2. Fill out the required information.
    3. At the bottom, type in your comment or question. Tell the company that you like their products (be specific on which ones) and tell them why you like them. Then simply ask if they could send you some money saving coupons.
    4. Hit send.
    5. Be patient and see if they send your coupons.
    6. See the full list of companies that you can write to!

I have received 11 personal typed letters in about two weeks. Try to write to your favorite companies. You just might have free coupons pouring in your mailbox. Some of them may be *FREE!*

  • Writing to Companies for Free Coupons

Have you been writing to companies for free coupons? If not, you are missing out. Read my article here on how I write to companies for coupons.

This last week I received two more letters in the mail. Below are the two companies and what each sent.

    1. Land O’ Lakes-

I used my $0.55 coupon today on their butter because the butter was on sale. You save more when you pair your coupon with a sale.

    2. Kimberly Clark Company- I never thought a coupon could be so pretty! These coupons can be used towards several Kimberly Clark products. Click here to see what I received last week from Mario Camacho Foods. I actually went and picked up my two free cans of olives today.

  • Free Coupons from Companies

I wrote a blog post a few days ago about writing to your favorite companies and requesting free coupons or free samples. You can read that post here.

Today I received a personal typed up letter from Mario Camacho Foods. I love their black olives and use them when cooking spaghetti and my homemade spaghetti. They sent me two $2.00 off coupons for their products and asked me to join in on their testing and tasting program, where they would send me samples occasionally.

    What does this mean?

I will get two Mario Camacho can of olives for free, because the cans I buy are less than $2.00. Thanks, Mario Camacho Foods!

Remember to go back and read the post mentioned above to see how you can write for coupons!
